WHO IS CANDIDATE FOR EYELID SURGERY?

Eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty, is appropriate for healthy adults of all ages who have realistic expectations about the surgery in improving their image. This surgery is about all the area around the eye, and it could be a good choice for you if you have:

  • Loose skin, wrinkles or fat pockets on you upper o lower eyelid
  • Eye bags on the lower eyelid
  • Saggy upper eyelids that reduce your vision
  • Saggy lower eyelids that expose the white portion of your eye

For a complete facial rejuvenation, Dr. Olmedo can combine the eyelid surgery with eyebrow lift surgery or a facelift. Sometimes an eyebrow lift can improve the area of the eyebrow/eyelid, helping create a better look. Dr. Olmedo will help you make the decision after your physical examination and discuss your options.

PREPARING FOR THE SURGERY

The surgery is generally done with local anesthesia, which will numb the area around your eyes, and intravenous sedation. You will be wide-awake throughout the whole surgery, but you will be relaxed and won’t feel pain.

Generally, the blepharoplasty takes about 1 to 3 hours depending on the work that is going to be done and if all 4 eyelids will be worked on. Typically in this procedure, the surgeons make an incision following the natural border of your eyelid: right on the fold of your upper eyelid and underneath your eyelash on your lower eyelid. Working through these incisions, the surgeon will separate the skin from the internal fat tissue and muscle, extracting any excess fat and cutting the skin and saggy muscles. Fine stitches are used to close the incision.

The skin on your eyelids become saggy due to aging. The muscles weaken and the fat deposits around your eye usually cause eye bags on the upper and lower part. The best candidates for eyelid surgery.

Before the surgery, the surgeon will make some points of incision following the line and natural folds of your upper and lower eyelid.

Fat can be extracted from underneath the skin as well as the excessive skin and muscle.

The surgeon closes the incisions with fine stitches, which would leave hardly visible scars.

After the surgery the upper eyelids doesn’t fall and the skin underneath the eyes have a more firm and plain look.
